JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

Hello All,

THIS SUNDAY- CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION SERVICE!

As we have announced that LIFT will NOT hold Christmas Day or New Years Day services, we invite you this Sunday (Dec. 18th, 2005- 6:30pm) for our LIFT Christmas Celebration Service.  We will worship our Lord in singing a few Christmas carols and the message of course will be the wonderful good news of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! Children are welcome to stay throughout the service as they too will be blessed to hear how the Bible (and not the Santa Claus marketing of today) really tells the true story of Christmas (in an entertaining way)!

When we begin our JAMES study again on January 8th, we will pick up right where we left off in chapter 1.  I hope some of you may have taken me up on my challenge to read James each week on your own (It’s less than 15-20 minutes of reading) and will keep reading it over the Christmas weeks.  It was nice to read an e-mail recently of one who IS reading James alongside us and IS being blessed with these treasures of God’s Word!

Regarding James, I have a quick personal word of encouragement of how the Word of God in the first few verses “touched” me, even this morning.  Tanya and I had a bit of frustration yesterday evening with a circumstance that was somewhat out of our control.  As I left the house this morning, Tanya was already on the phone attempting to deal with these matters.  As I drove out the garage, a song was playing from one of my CD’s that was divinely encouraging.  Before arriving to work 30 minutes later, the circumstance was already resolved with a positive outcome and the words of this song were still ringing in my soul.  I hope you are encouraged with these words as well!

SACRIFICE OF PRAISE

I will sing even when there is no song

I will trust even when it all seems wrong

You are faithful, You are faithful

You have shown me many times in many ways

It’s a sacrifice of praise

Hallelujah, hallelujah

Hallelujah

It’s a sacrifice of praise

I will hope even when my faith is weak

I will laugh, Lord You’ve made my joy complete

You are faithful, You are faithful

You have shown me many times in many ways

It’s a sacrifice of praise

Have a wonderful week and looking forward to celebrating Jesus’ birth this Sunday night with you at LIFT!

Corey (and Tanya)

“ELEMENTS-WOOD & SPECIAL INVITE”

Hello everyone,

In the next two weeks there are 3 particular events that I would like to inform you about and invite you to come to!

TONIGHT AT LIFT: The ELEMENTS of LIFT- WOOD-  Why is tonight any different than any other LIFT night?  Alongside our study of “WOOD- Service and Ministry- The building blocks of a church” we will look back at how LIFT came into existance and look ahead (VISION) at what LIFT may look like in the future.   If you are just getting to know us, it’s a great night to get the story first hand!

OCT. 16th- LIFT NIGHT- SPECIAL U.S. GUESTS-  My former seminary professor, Dr. Allan Karr and 6 or 7 pastors (students) with spouses (and families) are coming to Switzerland for an International Church Planting conference (also credit for their own seminary class).  Oct. 16th, they will join us at LIFT as we worship our Lord together.  We intend to give a quick review of LIFT’s history and future vision (from 9th of Oct) and we’ll hear what the Lord is doing in their part of the Kingdom as well!

OCT. 21st-Friday Night-18:30- INTERNATIONAL “POTLUCK” DINNER-at Stadtmission Zug, 35 Chollerstrasse- Zug- In the U.S. a “potluck” is when everyone who comes brings their own dish and in the end, we all have a wonderful festive meal together.  I’m not sure what it’s called around the world, but regardless, you are invited to join us this Friday night (our last night with the U.S. Group) AND BRING A DISH OF FOOD FROM YOUR HOME COUNTRY.  Most LIFT evenings we have people from 5 to 10 different countries, so this will be a fun time of sharing food from our cultures and the love of Christ together. I’ll be sure to bring something besides hamburgers and french fries, I promise!  (PLEASE SEND A CONFIRMATION REPLY IF YOU INTEND TO JOIN US FOR THIS SO WE CAN ESTIMATE HOW MUCH FOOD WE NEED)  Even if you can’t bring a dish or decide just on that evening, come and join us anyways, there’s surely plenty of food and the fellowship will be great!

Corey and Tanya

LIFT’s 1st Anniversary

Hello everyone,

I can’t believe it!  Actually I can, because it’s true, but it’s amazing how fast time goes by!  It was one year ago, on Sept. 5th, 2004 that the FIRST EVER LIFT NIGHT WAS HELD in the living room of our home!!!!  Eight adults and 5 kids in our little apartment singing, praying and looking into God’s Word.  Over the next months, we continued meeting in our home, just a few of us, but in a very authentic and humble way while growing in our love of the Lord and each other with vision of reaching out into the area around Zug.   In the beginning of 2005 and “launching” more publicly down by the lake at Vorstadt 30, many of you have come alongside as we seek to share the Gospel Message of God’s hope, love and grace to those around us.

This Sunday night we continue our study about prayer and are looking into prayer through SINGING!  We will use the imagery of how the Jews of the Old Testament prepared themselves and went on a journey (individually and as a nation) “Into the Holy of Holies” and in the presence of God!  Today, of course, we have this access to God because of Jesus, but even in prayer, songs can touch us in a special way.  We hope you can come make this journey alongside us this Sunday night!

Some ongoing and future events are mentioned below.  Give us a call or reply for more information.

“A little Best for you”

Hello everyone.

It has been a very interesting week for several families with the name Best. I’m gonna share a little about my family and some circumstances of this past week that definitely point to our Sovereign God who has the universe within His loving hands. (As both of my brothers receive these updates, I hope they don’t mind I share a glimpse of their lives and families.)

On one hand, Eric (the middle brother) experienced “new life” in that they received a long awaited blessing in their newborn infant boy, Brayden Daniel Best, who was born on Friday, May 13th. How exciting it was to hear the trans-north American adventure of Eric and his wife Kim getting a first call regarding the birth of Brayden (it’s a long story in itself, but they have been working through this ADOPTION process for months, after years of desiring another child) being a couple of months earlier than expected. Within 24 hours, they find out they are new parents (and Eric was 4 time zones away by the way) without even having the first package of diapers at home! What a wonderful and beautiful blessing.

On the other hand, Steve, (the oldest brother) and his family are experiencing a different kind of “new life” in that his father in law, Marvin Rieb, entered eternal life with Jesus on Friday. This was completely unexpected as his heart suffered cardiac arrest on Wednesday morning while still sleeping. As I write this, Steve and his three children are in route to meet up with his wife, Kris and rest of their extended family who now are preparing for funeral arrangement and life on earth without a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. What a wonderful and beautiful blessing his life was and is.

At the very bottom of this e-mail, I have attached the 14th chapter of the Gospel of John. Somehow, as I searched the Scriptures tonight, I felt that Jesus’ Words were, of course, better than mine expressing His love and purpose for our eternal lives with Him.

Please pray for Kris’ family (Steve’s wife) this week and the months to come during this time of her father Marvin going to be with the Lord. Also, may Brayden’s life, be one of a new servant for the Lord Jesus Christ!

We worship an awesome and sovereign God, whose love never fails!

Corey and Tanya

John 14

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,
31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

“Come now; let us leave.

Easter

Dear Jesus,

Please, forgive us for not always “walking” with you as closely as we should, and then try to make up for it during the week of Easter…….. that being said, let’s start this letter over:

Dear Jesus,

May we be especially blessed this week as we humbly “walk” with you to share your message and love of dying for us, and RISING for us, our Savior!!!!

What an exciting week to first remember God’s love for us in sending His Son to die for us and secondly, to celebrate that we worship a RISEN Savior, Jesus Christ!!

We have two opportunities this week at LIFT:

FRIDAY NIGHT (Good Friday) 25.3.2005- The Passion of the Christ (Mel Gibson Film) is being shown at our Vorstadt 30 location at no cost. Come join us at 19:00 for fellowship and the film begins at 19:30. More on this below.

SUNDAY NIGHT (EASTER SERVICE) 27.3.2005- Celebrating our Risen Savior- Jesus! including the Lord’s Supper/Communion Service. Normal LIFT night time at 18:30 at Vorstadt 30.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU JOIN US THIS EASTER WEEKEND!

……So what’s all this talk about the Passion of the Christ film that took the box offices by storm last year (and has been re-released this year during the Easter time, even here in Switzerland).

I’m not sure what you’ve heard, what you’ve seen or what your opinion is about this film, but I don’t mind sharing a little from my perspective and heart.

-Is it violent? Yes, sickening violent! I’ll be honest, I am not looking forward to seeing this film again, not for entertainment anyway, because it hurts to see my best friend, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, being brutally killed before my eyes. However, the Bible is the truth and it gives us the account of the last 12 hours of Jesus’ life before dying by a Roman crucifixion. Our Western culture* has somehow softened what Jesus’ dying meant for us, from His human aspect anyways. This movie is an incredible depiction for us to get a “glimpse” of what Jesus physically, mentally and spiritually went through for us (you, me and all of the world). We can never truly understand what taking on the sins of the world means, but that is what God’s perfect plan was, for Him to redeem us and restore us to Himself, through the atonement of Jesus Christ!

*The oxy-moron here is that the average kid sees something like 15,000 murders/deaths from T.V./Movies/Video Games before the age of 18.

-Is it about money? Many say that Mel Gibson is just profiting by glamorizing the cross. The truth is that no major Hollywood studio wanted to touch this movie. They all said NO, and NO WAY would a movie with subtitles be successful, especially with religious content. So Mr. Gibson, with passion of wanting to get this message of Jesus Christ out, put up $25 million of his own money to produce it anyways. Now that it has grossed somewhere in the $400 million range worldwide, it’s ridiculous that people are saying he did it for the money, being those that are only in it for the money, felt it had no chance to succeed.

Is the movie anti-Jewish? Of course not! Let me state this clearly, the Jews did not kill Jesus………….Jesus GAVE His life WILLINGLY for us, He could have called the angels of heaven down at any time to defend Him, but He chose to die for us! Reread John 3:16.

-Why show it in Zug as part of LIFT? As we have been looking at why we, the LIFT ministry, exist and we felt that this is way to share to the community around us the story of Jesus Christ’s love. The movie is to get people talking about Jesus, but it is OUR responsibility to continue the talking and help people understand and have a relationship with Jesus.

-Any other thoughts, Corey? Yep, of course, but just one more to note. This next tidbit of information is info that you can use in conversations with others to share the GOSPEL message. Did you know that Mel Gibson played a cameo role in this move? He did. During the hammering of the nails into Jesus’ hands, it was Mel Gibson’s real arm and hand that is shown pounding in the nail. Why would he do that? Perhaps it was his creative idea for him personally to show it was his sin, Mel Gibson’s that Jesus died for……in other words, it was Mel’s sin that killed Jesus, and he wanted to quietly take responsibility for his role. The truth is, it was my sin too, and yours! We all played a role in holding the hammer!

THIS MOVIE ISN’T FOR EVERYONE, especially not for children, but like no other movie, it gets people talking about JESUS! Perhaps you or someone you know may be challenged in faith by seeing this movie.

So, it was a long one this week (trying to make up for the rest of the year right?).

Have a wonderful Easter and thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit for your grace and love!

May we all be a blessing this week to the world around us that needs a
Savior!

In His grip and grace,
Corey
