Hello All,

I WANNA BE LIKE JESUS!  This Sunday night I hope you can come out and join us as we are looking at how to be Christ-like!  We hear it a lot at church, some of us our whole lives, but what does it mean?  As we are still digging into the paragraph about “what we are” as the LIFT ministry, we will discuss growing in our faith…..or some might call it DISCIPLESHIP.  I simply like the concept of just wanting to be like Jesus!

Our next big event is the Easter weekend and CELEBRATING OUR RISEN SAVIOR!!   We will be having a free public viewing of the Passion of the Christ film on Friday, March 25th.  This is a powerful movie that shares the love of Jesus (by dying for each of us) in an impacting way.  At Easter Sunday’s LIFT Night (March 27th) we will celebrate Communion (Lord’s Supper) together and focus on the joy in celebrating our RISEN Jesus as Savior!

We would ask that you please RSVP for the Friday night PASSION movie so we can ensure space considerations at Vorstadt 30.

The movie is truly “powerful” and not necessarily appropriate for children.  Perhaps, if childcare is a problem, we can coordinate an alternative for children, but let us know soon as we have not planned on childcare thus far.

It is a pleasure to serve our Lord Jesus Christ alongside all of you here in the Zug area!  May we continue to be blessed by God and to Him be all the Glory!

In His grip and grace,
Corey and Tanya

Lift Ministry- Merry Christmas!!! 2004

Hello Everyone,

It’s the morning of Christmas Eve, the streets are quiet, as well as the house, not too much going on, not even the peep of a mouse………….yada yada yada ….ho ho ho….!

Somehow, this Christmas has been special for me, much more than just the normal American jingles, decorations, children’s rhymes and traditions that I have been accustomed to. Maybe it is because it’s my first Swiss Christmas or maybe it is due to all the changes in my family’s lives this past year.  I’m not sure, but as noted a few weeks ago, my “Advent” season thus far has been of excited expectations and truly looking forward to celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, that of Jesus Christ, God’s gift to us!!!

What is Christmas to you?  What are your family traditions?  Something we’ve started in our home the past few years has been the reading of the Christmas story in Luke Chapter 2.  We intend to continue this family tradition today or tomorrow as we gather around one another and hear the true meaning of Christmas read aloud.  It will just take a couple of moments, but we pray that for our own kids, they will grow to know that the real gift of life, is Jesus Christ!

In a few short weeks, we begin our journey together in taking the message of Jesus to Zug in a more “public” manner.  Attached is an advertisment that will be posted around town.  Perhaps you could print it out and hang it on an information board at the office or around where you live.  We will have updates on the website specifically pushing this launch to Vorstadt 30 down by the lake.  On Jan. 9th we will meet again at our home for the last couple of weeks in preparing this big step.  Please pray that God continues to lead and guide us in His work here!

We wish you all the “best” this Christmas and next year.  May God bless you and those around you!

In His grip and grace,

Advent Season!

Hello Everyone,

Actually coming from this American’s perspective it should read “Advent Season?”…..notice the question mark.   This concept is really something new to me.  I’ve heard the term and understood the basics in regards to it being about expectation of the birth of Jesus at Christmas time, but that was the extent of my understanding.  Being here in Switzerland for my first Christmas season, this concept is much more than just a kid’s calendar with little chocolates behind each day’s door until Christmas, it’s being “advertised” everywhere.   So what is the point?  Pastor Tom of the International Baptist Church of Zurich stated it very well this past week during the introduction of the service.  He acknowledged that for Westerners, especially Americans and Canadians (which he is), this concept is not traditionally a strong focus of the Christmas season.  He put it into perspective for me very well using the illustration of a telephone call that he received about 14 years ago in Canada during the middle of the night from, Hanni, who is now his wife.  Her reply was a simple but yet life changing, “Yes!”.  And for Him, his “advent” had begun.  The HUGE expectation and looking forward to being reunited with the love of his life, and then united in marraige was in full effect.  Yes, his “advent” and excitement was profoundly bursting inside and he couldn’t wait for the day!!!!  SO THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT.  Looking forward, with extreme enthusiasm for our most wonderful Christmas gift ever, Jesus Christ!

How about looking beyond just this Christmas season in regards to our joy expectations of Jesus’ coming and reuniting with us forever.  Now, that’s something to look forward to!  A few “clips” are below from the book of Revelation in regards to looking forward to Jesus’ return.

Rev 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

Rev 19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True.

Rev 19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Rev 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Rev 22:20-21 Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

Notice that one is “blessed” by simply reading Revelation and taking it to heart.  Imagine what it will be like when heaven opens up and Jesus comes!  Life is easier when we view it with the perspective of eternity.  Somehow, just knowing that in the end we will be with Jesus forever without any tears or pain, it makes our problems and circumstances of today more tolerable and THERE IS HOPE!

The name of our ministry, LIFT, has a few “added” meanings to it and one is “Living In Forever Today”.  It simply means that the day one accepts Jesus Christ into their life, they have an eternal relationship with Him that began that day.  It doesn’t mean we have to wait until we die and are in heaven to be and know Him, this eternal relationship has already begun.   ENJOY YOUR RELATIONSHIP JESUS TODAY, and LOOK FORWARD WITH JOYOUS “EXPECTATION” OF HIS FUTURE RETURN!

In His grip and grace,

Luke 10:2-3
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go!

Greetings everyone,

This e-mail is in regards to a new ministry group beginning right here in the Zug/Baar area in “team effort” with the International Baptist Church of Zurich (IBCZ – English speaking) and the Evangelische Stadtmission Zug (Stami – German Speaking). The vision is to have an English speaking ministry that glorifies God as we share life with others, including the Gospel message, and also as we individually grow in our faith in God through Jesus Christ. Or in other words, “to Live it and Give it” right here in the canton of Zug! Regardless of nationality or church background we welcome you and others to join us in getting to know our Creator in a deeper and closer relationship!

We, the “other” part of the team effort, are Corey and Tanya Best. We have two children (Livia; 7 and Silas; 3) and we all are fresh “off the boat/plane” from Colorado, U.S.A. and are beginning our next adventure in life here in Zug/Baar. Our journey of faith begins and ends with Jesus and we are simply excited to serve Him and see what He has in store for the future. Our connection to Zug is through Tanya as she is also a “Zugerin” growing up here for half of her life, although she was born in Aspen, Colorado and lived the other half of her life in the U.S. Our family has dual citizenship, but I am the one with the accent over here. I grew up in Washington State and moved to Colorado in 1988. Being raised in a Christian home, I was blessed that God made it easy for me to know Him as my Personal Savior. I have a background of both general management/marketing and ministry, and feel that God has shaped Tanya and me in a manner that He has divinely led us here. For the last couple of years I completed my Master’s Degree in Theological Studies and served in student ministries at a Bible Church in Colorado. We will share more later…

Beginning THIS Sunday (Sept. 5th) we are launching LIFT NIGHTS here at our home from 6:30 pm -8:30 pm. This theme is about lifting up the name of Jesus and “L”iving “I”n “F”orever “T”oday, as we feel that an eternal relationship begins when one accepts Jesus on this side of heaven and not just after one dies. Our time will begin with a casual fellowship time including snacks, then a time of “Praise & Worship” to the Lord (I can manage with the guitar until others can help too) while sharing “life” together in regards to getting to know each other better and what/how we can pray for one another. We will end with a teaching time from the Bible. Kids are welcome. I did mention casual and please come as you feel comfortable.

Attached is a “flyer” or information sheet on a word document. Please call us with any questions or suggestions and also for directions to our home. If you know of others that may have an interest, by all means bring them along or help us get in contact with them. Don’t hesitate to give out these “flyers” or our contact information.

We are looking forward to seeing what God does in this area for His kingdom!

In His grip and grace,

Corey and Tanya
